Introduction

Cooking some meat.

So you want to prepare food for the station? Well then chef is the role for you.

Your main job is keeping the station fed, how you do so and what you prepare is entirely up to you.

Challenge

Mechanical difficulty: Low

Roleplay difficulty: Very Low

The chef is not a very demanding role in terms of mechanics or roleplay, it is probably one of the best roles for new players as you will get a chance to be familiar with the controls. While you can do a lot of roleplay as a chef it is not mandatory.

Cooking

This is the meat and potatoes of the job

A good chef usually has something on the counter.

For a repository of recipes I would reccomend SS14 Cookbook, I do not know if this site is fully accurate to Byrd as I only make burgers. If it is not accurate then you can use the in game guidebook.

Tools

Butcher's Cleaver/Chef's Knife

These knives are used for cutting up things.

The reagent grinder and hot food cart.

The Chef's knicke and Butcher's Cleaver are very dangerous weapons, make sure they do not fall into the wrong hands. For more information see the 'Close Quarters Cooking' section.

Reagent Grinder

The Reagent Grinder allows you to grind or juice a huge variety of things.

Usually you will use this to grind wheat into flour for making dough or grinding cloth into fiber, there are a lot more options then this but those are the two big ones.

The Microwave

This is your most verstile tool

If you need to create multiple multiple recipies at once then you can add the cooking time together, for example you can cook up to 6 buns at once if you put it in the microwave

The chefvend and the chef's locker.

Mousetraps

The mousetraps are able to kill small creatures when activated, i would reccomend deploying them under your workspace to keep mice from eating your in progress food.

The Cow/Goat
The dinnerware vendor.

You can alt+click on them with some kind of container to fill it with milk if they are not starving. If they are hungry then you can feed them with wheat from botany.

The Vending Machines

The chefvend contains a large amount of ingredients that you can use to cook all kinds of food.

The dinnerware vendor contains most of your tools and a wide variety of plates and utensils.

If botany is not helping and you need more ingredients then you can order a chefvend restock crate from the service request computer.

The Hot Food Cart

This is a cart that has a large storage that you can fill with food, this is an incredible roleplaying tool as you can go around and talk to the different departments to serve food. I would strongly reccomend using this once you have made a good amount of food so that you can go around and talk to people.

A great way to kill monkeys and kobolds is letting them freeze to death.

Something to keep in mind

Remember that the crew has a variety of dietary requirements, some need to eat meat, some need to eat cloth, make sure there is some food for everyone.

Close Quarters Cooking

If you are in a kitchen then you gain access to Close Quarters Cooking, an immensely powerful martial art that makes an experienced chef almost unbeatable while they are in the kitchen.

Intents

In order to effectively use close quarters cooking you need to understand the three intents.

Harm: Left click, damages the target.

Shove: Right click, shoves the target away.

Grab: Control+left click, grabs the target.

Combos

The power of Close Quarters Cooking is in its combos, to do a combo perform the attacks listed in order.

Slam

Grab and then harm

knocks a standing target down and deals blunt damage.

Kick

Harm twice

Knocks the target away and deals blunt and stamana damage. If they are out of stamina then it puts them to sleep.

Restrain

Grab twice

Restrains and knocks down the target, dealing stamina damage.

Pressure

Shove then grab

Deals stamina damage and steals whatever the target is holding in their active hand.

Consecutive

Shove, shove then harm

Deals a lot of stamina damage and some blunt damage.

Leg sweep

Harm while you are prone.

This will make you get up instantly while putting the target on the floor.
