Switching tools on the bottom bar is the same button as switching hands (x and shift+x by default)

Charge

Your charge is how much energy is left in your battery. it is indicated by the battery icon on the right of your screen

Everything you do, from moving to any tool interaction takes a small amount of this energy

Do not let this hit zero, at zero you will be slowed to a crawl, lose all accesses and be unable to use your tools. If this happens in an unfortunate spot then you will be stuck and will need to wait for help.
